I Have Stuff

And now the ugly part of nesting: putting all my real shit back where it goes. I've enjoyed the sleek minimalism of my room these past few days - when I'm not using my furniture properly, I can artfully pose a stack of books or a wooden box on an empty surface. Unfortunately, I value function over form, and things must be what they must be.
I've spent the day unloading cardboard boxes and agonizing over where things go. I haven't gotten rid of much besides books. I'm halfway through the dime cart shelf, and keeping about a third of what I got, so far. That's ten fascinating new books, including Castle Hangnail (so good!), a book on the development of the alphabet (slightly racist, but full of fascinating things I never knew), some books full of Horse Facts, and that book about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's interest in solving crimes. Well worth the investment of time and spare change.
While rummaging through boxes, I rediscovered my long-lost tin of handmade glass beads, found some money in an envelope, and discovered a blotchy old silver tray from my dad's family, which polished up beautifully. Not a bad day!

Date: 2019-04-01 10:44 pm (UTC)The alphabet book with the racism is weird - it's a fascinating, well-researched, and beautifully illustrated book. But goddamn does its author hate Phoenicians. Can't fucking restrain himself from criticizing their handwriting, their lack of surviving art and literature, and their alleged negative character traits.
I was baffled about racism towards a group from like 1200 BC, and a friend warned me that Phoenicians were a Semitic group, and thus people are prone to taking anti-semitic cracks at them.
I will probably put up a proper post with photos at some point.
