The Purge of Sparkles
Jan. 15th, 2019 12:58 pmI'm cleaning the house. My sewing room is a hell pit, my bedroom is a laundry nest, and the glitter is breeding.
I lazily let acrylic paint crust on a palette, and it didn't all peel off nicely, so it lives in the kiddo art tub now. The paintbrushes were, shockingly, salvageable! They were crusty and glittery by the end, but whenever we used them I kept on top of the water changes and rinsed the brushes often to keep the colors from mixing too badly. As an added bonus, almost everything the kiddo used was water soluble, so I just petted a bar of soap with the brushes until all the paint and glitter was coaxed out (and then scraped the glitter off the soap), and I've left them for a brief soak. Ikea makes some sturdy brushes, so the tips are all okay.
I've done a glitter wipedown and checked my own paints and supplies for infestation before allowing them back in. I've separated the art that needs fixative from the art that may go to the Great Beyond. The kiddo insisted on packing the canvas boards and box she did yesterday, declaring it was Only For Her and Not For Presents. Good for her, she really enjoyed that batch.
The box of play dough supplies has been upended and de-crumbed. All the cutters have been inspected and scrubbed, then separated by category into sturdy ziplocks. I made a cardboard tube to contain the mats, and tucked away the box in the closet for next year. The kiddo art supplies - sidewalk chalk, markers, glitterglue, paint, etc - have been placed in the kiddo art tub, and neatly filed away in the closet.
My bathroom has been purged of the accumulated water balloons, cat toys, and empty bottles that are apparently top notch bath toys. I have reclaimed the real toys I loaned out - they're a little worse for the wear, but that is to be expected. I had the sense to keep the tiny or fragile ones in reserve.
I've hunted down all the kid books to return to the library (two bulging tote bags), and I am finally going to tackle the Christmas crafting mess I sealed away in my swing room. Wish me luck.
