Haven't had much time to work on it, but it will get there. Despite how it looks, I actually have enough boxes and enough categories that I can restore it to order with a bit of work.

The fabric categories:

Polyester and cotton batting. Honestly, I love poly batting for its fluffiness and easy care, but cotton batting can also be great. I've tied scraps of batting to the handle so I can see at a glance which is which.

Massive tub of stuffing. Fuck, I need to make more dolls or something; it's getting out of hand. I know you get better value buying big packs, but a little stuffing goes a very long way and that is how I have a massive pillow's worth of stuffing just eating up space. At least it compacts well.

Furry fabric. Anything from fake fur to polar fleece to velvet counts in my eyes - texture is important when you're making doll clothes or stuffed animals. It's one of those things I use very rarely, but there's just no substitute when you need it.

Knit fabric. Got a serger now, so I'm finally going to be brave enough to use it. I have a couple clothing patterns saved. A lot of this is harvested from clothes.

Canvas. I have so much damn denim and some rolls of horrible nautical canvas. Maybe I should make some duffle bags or something.

Prequilted fabric. Either cute leftover snippets of my projects I could possibly have a use for, or that fluffy storebought quilt stuff people keep assuming I could use. To be fair, it's good for padding and doesn't dip into my precious batting supply.

Leather. Thick leather, suede, vinyl, doesn't matter. I keep em all together and almost never use them. I could probably manage some pretty good doll armor, or an anklyosaurus or something.

Purgatory. I don't like throwing fabric away, and people love giving me fabric. This box contains fabric I dislike but can't bring myself to throw in the garbage. I like a lot of fabrics! Just not these. I'm probably going to have another look through it once my sewing room is in order - some of it will make for excellent presents, but mostly I just need to shit or get off the pot.

Quilting cotton. My bread and butter. I love the variety of colors and prints, the weight of it, the precise weave, everything. I use more of this than anything else (well, I quilt more than anything else so it makes sense), and am constantly running out of colors. It occupies four shiny green boxes - warm colors, cool colors, novelty prints that have pictures on them, and fusible (webbing and interfacing).

Scraps. Quilting cotton scraps, sorted by palette. I am saving them up for scrappy projects, because you need to have enough variety (or it just looks sloppy), and a carefully defined palette (or it just looks muddy). They live in a collection of hat boxes and shoeboxes. My palettes are: warm foresty, sea blue, candy bright, and mosstroll. Mosstroll is for my friends, who unaccountably enjoy desaturated colors.

That's it for now - this post is already quite long and dry, and likely of little interest to anyone but me. It's definitely helping inspire me to clean my sewing room, though! Next time, non-fabric organization, featuring different media, resources, and tools.
